Finding Mirebalais, Haiti
After a unique opportunity to visit Mirebalais in the Fall of 2009 and after meeting with local
leaders, it became immediately apparent that GCA needed to begin a campaign to bring change
to this city and its surrounding towns. Within a couple of months, the devastating earthquake in January 2010 led to the Mirebalais population doubling from 200,000 to 400,000+ with tent
cities springing up throughout the vicinity. GCA was well positioned to respond. Since the beginning of 2010, GCA has brought down several containers to Haiti filled with food, clothing,
tents, and other materials, and has distributed tens of thousands of relief packages both in
Mirebalais and Port au Prince to bring temporary relief to Haiti’s suffering.
Traveling to Mirebalais
Because of the close proximity to the Port au Prince airport and paved roads through the countryside, Mirebalais is easily accessible for teams traveling with GCA. The drive from Port au Prince to Mirebalais is only about one hour and the paved roads provide for smooth and safe passage.
